(July 24, 2011) Haigh has got to be one of the best kept secrets in contemporary country music today. I recently learned of him thanks to this review by C.M. Wilcox over at Country California and it’ll likely be one of the best country music discoveries I make all year. This first single from his sophomore album is a toe-tapping delight that will have you singing along and cracking a cold one by the time you hit the repeat button. The tight, swinging honky tonk arrangements give Haigh’s tremendous twang plenty of room to shine. The Tracy Lawrence comparisons will be hard to avoid but Haigh offers up plenty of his own personality to compliment that obvious influence. The song’s simple but clever hook goes a long way as well. Tracks like this and Bradley Gaskin’s “Mr. Bartender” serve as rewarding proof that modern honky tonk is still very much alive and well.
